The Table
It seemed that everything that Serena had ever wanted, always just fell at her feet because she was Serena van der Woodsen. She had hair made out of sunshine, her smile cured the cancer and when she laughed, a rainbow appeared. She got everything she wanted, and sometimes she got everything she really didn’t even want.
Except for Blair Waldorf.
Why was it that the one thing she really wanted, she could never get? What she wanted most in the world was Blair’s love.
But there was only one person in Blair’s world that held her heart. Chuck Bass.
But whenever the newlywed power couple had a fight, Blair would knock onto Serena’s door.
“That fucking Basstard!” Hell hath no fury like Blair Waldorf scorned. When she was angry, Serena could swear that she saw fire coming from the brunette’s eyes. “I found him in our bed, with those fucking brainless twins.”
Serena had lost count how many time Chuck had cheated on Blair with some twins. Why he would actually do such a thing, was beyond her. After all, Blair was perfect. And not even Chuck Bass should cheat on perfection. “What are you going to do?”
She asked the same question every time something like this happened. And she always got the same reply. “I’ll leave him, of course. And I’ll get everything he owns in the divorce.” Then without a warning, Blair’s lips crash onto Serena’s. “I want you.”
Those are not the three words Serena longs to hear more than anything, but she takes them. She thinks that maybe this time things are going to be different. She kisses Blair, and they soon find their way to Serena’s bedroom.
The next morning, Serena wakes up with a smile on her face. Blair would still be there, she knew it. She would tell her that she loves Serena with all her heart.
When Serena opened her eyes, Blair really was there. But she was already getting dressed. She wasn’t even looking at Serena. Instead, she was whispering on her cell phone. “I know you’re sorry.” Serena can see tears on Blair’s cheeks, but there is also a smile on her lips. “I just wish you would stop doing that to me.”
“Blair,” Serena interrupts the brunette’s phone call. “What’s going on?”
Blair spins around, and it seems that she’s almost scared to see that Serena’s awake. “I’ll be home soon,” she tells Chuck and hangs up. “Chuck called. He’s really sorry.”
“Like he was the last time? And the time before that?” Serena can’t help but to sound bitter and spiteful, because that’s exactly how she feels. Unlike Blair, she has never been that great at masking her feelings.
“Just because you want me for yourself, doesn’t mean that I can’t be happy with someone else.” She pulls on her Jimmpy Choo’s and stands up.
“Well, don’t come running to me the next time you find him in your bed with another set of twins.” She gets out of bed and pulls on a robe. She doesn’t bother to cover her naked body before pulling the robe on. It’s not like Blair hasn’t seen her naked before.
“Fine,” Blair says after a moment of pause. “I won’t. Because that will never happen again. I’m sure of it.”
Of course Blair’s not right. Not even a month passes before she finds Chuck in their bed with triplets this time.
When Serena hears what happened, she smiles. “At least it wasn’t twins this time.” She guides Blair into her apartment and hugs her. Blair’s lips end up on hers again. Yet again, Blair never tells her those three words she wishes to hear, but they end up having sex again.
Serena tries not to think about the next morning. She just wishes that Blair would finally see what’s right in front of her, that all these years Serena has loved her more than she has ever loved anything else. Maybe this time Blair will stay in bed with her the next morning. Maybe Blair will eventually tell her those three magic words.
But no matter how much Serena hoped or wished, she knew what would happen the next morning. Chuck would call Blair and tell her how sorry he is. Blair will believe him and she will go back to her.
It’s always about Chuck for her. It’s always him.
