 Graduation. Done. Well, mostly.
Now it's time to finish up my MBA applications and hope to get in.

So among ridiculous goals I will have for the next ten years...
1. Finish law school and buy a farm or a large enough chunk of land with an old house to build a baseball diamond? Why? Watch field of dreams...
2. Get an Old English Sheepdog and name her Martha. Her friend? A black lab named Jet. Anyone get the Beatles reference? No?
3. Stop getting annoyed everytime someone talks international politics (Right now, my new neighbors are debating Georgia, Iraq, Russia and Afghanistan and making some shitty opinions about a situation they are uninformed on...Okay... Maybe I can't go for the third goal...).

It's summer, there is nothing better at the time than going to a baseball game at this place:

But living in Lawrence, after such a great year in sports, I long for the school year to start. I live in a state where the highest paid public official is our basketball coach, Bill Self. After winning the National Championship they cancelled school for the day and our great Governor, Kathleen Sebelius (who is on Obama's short list for VP), came to give a speech about her love for the Jayhawks.
But then there is baseball... and this scene from Field of Dreams gets me every time:
But then there is Kansas basketball. We have had 8 coaches since the game of basketball was invented. Our first coach was this guy on the left:
That's Dr. James Naismith. He invented the game of basketball. And the guy on the right is "Phog" Allen and is responsible for basketball becoming a collegiate sport.
And the guy in charge of the biggest basketball program in the country?
Right here:
6 of his players went to the NBA this year, and one went to the Olympics... pretty big deal. School needs to start already. I need to come up with the main idea for my honors thesis too...

No one reads this anymore, which is less than the number of people (1) that will read my final exam for my Rhetoric and Social Influence class tomorrow. Having only known the professor for 3 weeks, she will get more enjoyment out of it than anyone reading this journal. I will delete this journal in 7 days. If you desire to talk to me again, comment or message me or something...

Just to be quite blunt about how I am feeling right now, fuck summer school. Four week classes suck the life out of you.
I feel like this guy must feel in this scene when I walk into class:
Utter confusion and bullshit. Six more days...

School is in session and it is freaking great.
My schedule for the semester:
Elementary French I- a class with a gta from france that invited everyone to meet in a bar for more practice with the French language...
Media & Society- My first day of class we watched Daily Show clips and different clips of things on YouTube. A couple friends took the class before me and said the class is the same throughout the semester
Composition & Literature- the hardest part of my schedule right here. I have to write 4 essays all semester. Two are in class, two are out of class, then a final research project (on whatever I want). One of the essays is on myself, the next on music or art, another on the 'state of the environment' and another on any piece of literature I like.
Topics in Mathematics- this is the most bullshit class I've ever taken. I only have to show up 5 times in the semester and there are 550 other kids in the auditorium. Today we learned how to do sudoku and the class goes all the way up to linear algebra (think 7th grade math). It was either this, statistics or calculus to finish my final math requirement for graduation.
Looks like an easy semester, and it will be probably my only easy one, since the School of Journalism has a ridiculous grading scale and to get an A, one has to have a 93% or above.
My job is going to be pretty kick ass as well too. When I'm not in class during the school day, 20 hrs a week, I will be working for the Dean of the School of Journalism, but mostly working in the Media Room making copies of newspapers for peoples research papers. Another note on this is that there is this cute chick from the UK working with me.
Writing for the school newspaper has been working out a lot better too. It looks as if my next column will be on the whole Michael Vick ordeal and how the guy who held some of the records set before him went to KU, and that no dogs were harmed in his record setting season. My favorite part of the newspaper is this phone line called the "Free For All" in which anyone can call in and leave a message that will be posted in the paper. From what I've noticed is that a lot of people just call in and leave a message spoiling the ending to movies when they come out like spiderman, harry potter, star wars, etc... Fucking hilarious stuff.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it here... It may be way too hot in this state in the summer, but KU is an awesome school. I just transferred here and have a lead sports column, I'm a reporter, and got on with Sporting News' website's campus watch (the oldest and most read sports publication in the country). My classes seem fairly easy, and that's what I was going for. I also got hired as an administrative assistant to the dean of Journalism/working in the school's media room, which is a tax-free job with full benefits...kick ass. A year ago, maybe even a little bit longer before I was looking for an AFROTC scholarship to go to school... for various reasons... Things didn't quite pan out, but kind of lead me to where I am now so I must say things worked out perfectly. I see myself as a 4.0 g.p.a. student with a lot of free time on my hands... at a school with probably the prettiest girls in the country (hence Playboy's issue's year in and year out on college girls and KU).
line of the night...
I'm not trying to save the scene...I'm trying to save my baby sister from Shiny Toy Guns.
If there is one thing that get's to me the most, it's kids that listen to pseudo-musical electronic/emo/indie bands that sound like shit, or are immitating something that sounded like shit 10 years ago... It comes with a certain style of dress, shitty music tastes historically, and a better than everyone attitude. If scene kids still existed when my children go to college I'll convince them to join a Fraternity or Sorority before acting like a fucking incompetent loser centered around b.s. music made on a vintage synth. Then again, my kids will have enough attention and love that they wont be scenesters... Seriously, how long can 80s night go on and kids drink PBR's like it's cool...
