I did this today. I don't think that it's very good, but at least I've learned a few things for the next one. I'll use a less textured paper (watercolour wasn't the best choice) and I'd use an image with fewer details and more dark, solid lines.

Solvent Transfer with Coloured Pencils

At the top is the photocopy that I transferred onto the watercolour paper. I did it by putting the photocopy face down on the watercolour paper and rubbing the back of the photocopy with a blender pen. Afterwards when the details didn't come out quite as I had hoped, I attempted to colour it in with some coloured pencils. Made it a bit better, but not by much. This can be done with colour copies too, which is something I want to try.

Yes, I know... You've seen this sandwich before. But look! This time it's vertical!

I'm getting my portfolio ready to print. This one made the cut.

ETA: I think that I might have gone overboard on the saturation on post, yeah?

I was clicking through the "clients" section of my website today. I'm not vain, I just like to check to make sure that all of my links are active and stuff. Anyway, I noticed that Lifestyle Ontario Magazine has put up the recipes that I photographed! I'm only a little pissed that they didn't credit me OR Howard (the guy who create the recipes), but I think that I gave away my rights to be credited when I signed their contract. I need to re-read it.

Anyway, I thought that you all might enjoy this recipe, which I make a lot because it's so tasty and so easy:

Apple Rhubarb Crumble

For Filling:
4 cups of apple, peeled and cut into 1- inch pieces (approx 3-4 apples)
1 1/2 cups rhubarb
3 tbsp flour
1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar

Cut the rhubarb into 1-cm thick slices. Toss all the ingredients together.

For Crumble Topping:
6 tbsp butter (very cold)
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 cup all purpose flour
Pinch of salt

Break up the flour and butter using your fingertips until the butter is in pea-size pieces. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until the crumble takes on the texture of wet sand (add 1 tbsp of water if the dough is a little dry).

To Assemble: Place the apple mixture in a 9-inch round oven safe baking dish. Gently top the apples with the crumble mixture (do not pack the crumble too hard).

Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes.

TIPS:
• Crumble is not pie dough. It should not be an even dough Parts will look like wet sand and others will look more like dry sand.
• Firm apples, such as Granny Smith, work best with this dish.
• More or less sugar can be added to the filling depending on if a sweeter or more tart product is desired. • If the top of the crumble is browning too fast, cover with tin foil.

PS: You can make it pesadich by using matzo cake meal instead of flour. Hurrah!

Also mine:
-Fresh Gnocci with Morels
-Asparagus Bisque

This is what I did last night. At first I wasn't really looking forward to it, but when you think about it I'm pretty lucky: I get to spend time with people when they're having the most fun they've had in ages! I get to be there to take in all of the excitement and love and all of that other great stuff. And I get paid for it. And if I'm lucky, I get to eat sticky rice cakes and salmon.

Toronto Skyline, originally uploaded by sharp.photo.

A boring, typical shot of Toronto's skyline. Shot on film in 2005 while I was at a concert on the island.

Speaking of "the island", LOST is on tonight! Yippeee!

Snorkelling in the Med, originally uploaded by sharp.photo.

Not on our list of things to do this time, but last time I was in Israel I shot this with a crappy little disposable underwater camera.

Snorkeling scared me. Being able to see to the bottom of a very deep body of water is terrifying. It's a side effect of being afraid of heights, I think. I started to hyperventilate when I first put my face in the water and saw how deep it was. Half of our group stayed on the beach all day to snorkel, but me and my friends ended up leaving early and spent the day exploring Eilat instead. Eilat is a boring town.

Hello from Portland. Today we went to the Stumptown Annex for a coffee tasting, which was interesting. The guy standing in the background of my photo there was slurping the coffee so loudly! They have all of these different types of coffees in bowls and you dip your spoon in, slurp it, then spit it into a cup like you do with wine. Then you dip your spoon into clear water (everyone uses the same cup to clean their spoon, which i think is gross) and try the next one.

We had lunch at Pok Pok (http://pokpokpdx.com), then went down to the Pearl and wandered aimlessly. I convinced Richard to go with me to Powell's. I love that place.

Tomorrow we're going to go and visit a winery or something. Weather's been nice and it's going to get nicer.

Isn't this AMAZING? It's everything that I love about retro-style graphic design.

Arbor day (Tu B'Shevat) is Israel was on Monday. I was looking for photos of places in Israel that we may want to visit (or revisit) on Flickr and I found this. I want to make a poster from this.
