My Great-Grandfather on my dad's side is in the hospital. He has Pancreatic Cancer. He definitely does not have much longer to live, so my dad and my Grandma (Bernice) drove up to Kentucky to be with my Great-Grandmother and Aunt Caroline.

He's 90. I don't really know what to say because I always felt like he was invincible. I'll probably be up in the beautiful state of Kentucky sometime in the next few weeks to go to his funeral. Bernice is very strong, but she knows that her mother is not. She told my mom that she knows if Grandpa goes first, she will be gone shortly after.

I guess I'll update more about that later.

Does anyone else have a boy dog that ALWAYS pees on himself?

It's really frustrating every time we go out, having to come back in and wash his feet (leg).

geez.

Distant, very distant relatives.

I recently found out from my grandmother that we are a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. Which I thought was super cool, since I had never sat down and talked to her about this before. Also, this was AFTER learning about my dad's side of the family, which I won't even share here in public. I'll just say they were all from Indiana and Kentucky. Enough said.

Anyhow, today in History class we were talking about where we're all from, and the guy behind me says, "All I know is that I'm related to Sir Francis Drake." ha I was like, "No shit? Me too!" Which resulted in a shared high five. haha So that makes him a sort of relative. He got the good end of the deal with still having the last name Drake. While I'm a stinky Carleton. ;)

I thought that was funny/cool. I'm so nervous about the test we took on Tuesday. I can't wait to get the results. We probably won't receive them until Tuesday or Thursday of next week though. Bummer.

My GPA is up since I got an A in my computer class. I have a 3.53. Now I just need to ace this next literature test, and get an A in my History class and I'll be back on track. Hopefully I won't screw it up with my hellish fall schedule.

Phil's parents and nephew have been in town since Saturday night. They live in Houston (Well his parents live in Houston but Ryan and his mom live in California), and come here during the summer for a mini vacation. This time they brought Ryan, Phil's 4 year old nephew. He's a super cute kid, and I have no idea how they keep up with him. I'll get some pictures up later. He LOVES Guitar Hero, and he can even hit a few notes. It's really cute to see him hold the giant guitar and keep looking away from the screen to hit the right colors. He also loves Thomas the Tank Engine? Or whatever it's called and has a zillion toys.

Saturday I wasn't home when they arrived, I had made plans with Lisa to hang out, have dinner, dye my hair, watch a movie, and for me to organize her bookshelf. lol We had fun and I got home around 2am.

Sunday his parents came over and cooked a giant lunch/dinner, and hung out for awhile. Yesterday we went to the beach. It was really nice to go to the beach, and for it being around 3pm when we got there I still got a little sun.

I was pretty nervous because I had my first exam in Modern American History today, and I didn't get as much studying as I wanted to get done. The whole exam was a bunch of small essays and a larger essay. Then a time line and extra credit was writing the 10 presidents following Abe Lincoln, first and last name. That was tough (I'm horrible at memorizing things), the time line was tough. Out of the 20 small essays we had to pick 8. Those were a breeze, and I got half a page written for each of those. For the big essay we were supposed to write two pages (Gordon Rule). I wrote 3 1/2, and was the 2nd person finished. When I went up to turn it in he asked to see the Essay to make sure it was long enough. He counted the pages, and says really loud "Wow, three pages!" and the whole class looks up and stares at me. He then says to them, "that's RIGHT." and winks at me.

Now I am the official enemy of the class. hahaha Oh well, I wanted to make sure to get everything in about problems in the big cities during the late 19th Century. I think I manged to fit it all in. Here's hoping for an A! ;)

I have my Final in World Literature on Friday. I'm going to Lisa's again and she will help me. This class has been really tough, and the teacher has been a real ****. I now know that poetry and I are not meant to be. I have also found that History is a really great subject. My professor has a ton of knowledge on everything, and he's entertaining. Too bad not all teachers are as talented at drawing the student in and making them want to learn and do well. :)

I'm so excited for the fall, but I'm also SUPER nervous. Here is my schedule for Tuesdays & Thursdays:

9:00AM-10:40AM Elem Spanish I (4 Credit Hrs)
11:00AM-12:15PM Intro to Sociology (3 Credit Hrs)
12:30PM-1:45PM College Algebra (3 Credit Hrs)
Online Class - Bio Foundations I (3 Credit Hrs)

This is my schedule...IF I can manage to come up with all the money by Tuesday to pay for them.

Joey is in Spanish, Algebra, and Bio with me, so that is super rad. It'll be good to have a study partner in Spanish, and someone else in Algebra.

I'm nervous b/c it's my first really packed schedule. :)

Anyway, if you haven't been if you've read this far you are obviously awesome. OR totally bored! Don't forget to go read my other blogs http://www.myspace.com/brookereviews. :)

I always get crazy cravings for chocolate where I whine for hours, and beg Phil to go to the store. He never does because then I complain about eating too much chocolate haha.

Anyhow, I told him next time there is chocolate in the house he should hide it from me. That way when I get cravings and am bugging him he can go grab a piece and give it to me.

Well, he actually did it.

The chocolate is gone!

I can't find it. I'm too short to see in the tops of the cabinets (he's 6'5, I'm 5'5), and I definitely don't plan on stooping to that level of desperateness (that a word?).

I'm going to drink some sweet tea and try to forget that the chocolate ever existed.

Wish me luck!

Of answering questions like this:

What is the purpose of the new position of assistant secretary for Cyber-Security and Telecommunications? Explain what prompted Congress to elevate the post from its original hierarchical rung at the Department of Homeland Security?

for my Intro to Computers class. Which is a class we HAVE to take in school. lol
It has been 2 months of answering this junk. I'm ready to pull my hair out.

In better news I got a 93% on my World Lit exam this past week. I had the help from my wonderful friend Lisa. Without her I do not think I would have been as successful, because me and poetry just don't get along. I do enjoy Keats now though. She's a super fantastic incredible friend, and I'm so lucky that she put up with me. :) I love you lisa!

Words Words Words

Do any of you have a word that you just can't stand to hear or read? A word that just gets under your skin?

I do and it's the word

QUASI

QUASI?!

Ugh it just drives me bonkers to hear this. My brother uses it, and every time he says it I'm like, "Just, shut up, please."

It never looks right in a sentence, and when I hear it I just want to cover my ears and yell "NO NO NO!"

I bring this up because I was reading for class, and someone was describing what they felt when they read Frederick Douglas's Notes From the Underground.

She said this: "That even in quasi-modern day (I was 6 and younger when my Dad sang to me, and I'm 23 now. You do the math) slave songs are still being passed down orally, in the same way as the 1800s."

I was enjoying her story until she said that...and then I think my head exploded.

Alright sorry...

I went back yesterday with the plan that if Keira (the minpin) was still there I was going to bring her home. I told Phil before I left the house that he couldn't be mad if I did. lol He just laughed.

When I arrived at the store she was no where in site. The young man working there remembered me and told me that a young couple and their son came in and got her. :) They already have another minpin, so she will have a playmate.

I was happy to hear that.

Now I'm off to save all the other puppies in the world...

I got the most hilarious one today here it is:

Subject: See the Cockasian at work

Message: You better ensure you have your long range artillery serviced when you enter the sex combat zone.

With a link to a website. Yeah I better have my long range artillery serviced, because I wouldn't want to enter the sex combat zone without a tune up! Ah, I got a good laugh out of this.

Puppies...

You know, it makes me awfully mad when people disown dogs because they are more to handle than they originally thought.

Today I was at this store called All About Puppies (On North Dale Mabry). Now I would never buy from there because I think it's insane to purchase a dog for hundreds and even thousands of dollars. But it's not the puppies fault they cost so much, so I go in and pet them when I'm near the store.

This time there was a MinPin in there. She was in a smallish cage and she looked scared, so I picked her up. She immediately wrapped her arms around my neck and snuggled in. I was in love instantly. I asked the girl working what was up with her because she seemed kind of big, and I wanted to know how old and what breed she was. I told the girl that she was the sweetest dog I had ever held in their store. The girl told me "You can take her home today, she's free." I think my jaw hit the floor because then she said, "Yup, free." I'm like um why? She then tells me that the dog got the mange, but was healing well and was no longer contagious. That she had to get a dip once a week for five weeks. That the owner didn't want to DEAL with that so they decided to give her away.

So after four months of having this poor puppy they decide, "Oh this is too much work, we'll just give her back." I was so sad. I didn't want to put her down, and I didn't want to leave her in the store. But I know Phil would absolutely die if I brought home a dog. I almost did it too. Her name was Keira and she's a Minpin and very loveable. So if you are looking for a sweet dog that will snuggle with you and love you forever, head on over to All About Puppies on North Dale Mabry to pick her up. All you have to do is bring her back once a week for the next four weeks to get a dip to continue her skin treatment.

It just makes me so angry that these rich people with money will go spend all this money on a fancy pure bread dog, and then just give her up like that. I hate people sometimes.

I can't tell you...

This was a really great bday weekend, even though it rained for the whole thing. I can dig the rain as long as I'm indoors! Friday night I cooked stuffed shells for Phil and I, and we had a Weeds marathon since we missed the whole last season. Then after Phil went to sleep (he had work the next day) I stayed up and played on www.pokerstars.com till about 3am with Joey and J. That was some hilariousness, especially since we were all at our separate homes and drinking.

Saturday I woke up and drove to Joey's in the middle of a crazy storm so we could go have birthday breakfast. Then we went and got pedicures! Ahh, they are always so nice. Next time I'm getting the foot massage, that's for sure.

We got back to my place around 1ish, and that's when the drinking started. We watched soccer and Phil brought my bday present home (a new fantastic bookshelf!) We took shots on goal, even though we were cheering on Netherlands we did shots when Russia scored. ha!

Then Phil, Nick, Joey, J, Lisa, and me went to Charley's Steakhouse! Which was OMG fabulous! Gator tail, filet mignon, potatos, creme brulee, peanut butter cake, carrot cake, martinis galore! It was a blast. I thought maybe we were being obnoxiously drunk, but whatever we were cracking up the whole time.

Then we went to the Casino...and I lost 45 bucks way too fast! Gambling is shitty when you lose. It also seems like everyone who goes to the casino chain smokes. Aye, I left there smelling like I rolled around in an ashtray.

Today Phil and I hung out at home all day long. We watched more Weeds and the Olympic Trials. I read a LOT :)

Anyhow! Thanks everyone who made this birthday so special! Hellllooo 26!
