| Random - frappuccinos |
[17 May 2008|11:54am] |
|
This may sound dumb but I'm annoyed that frappuccinos are made out of pre-sweetened mixes, and are therefore calorie-bombs, light or not. I can understand it saves time and why it's more convenient in some cases -- primarily the non-coffee ones -- but you could take espresso, milk, sugar/sweetener, ice and syrup and essentially make a blended iced latte that will taste great. I make one at home every morning -- even making matcha ones.

| energy warnings? |
[17 May 2008|11:12am] |
|
So on the box that the energy packets come in there's this warning about keeping it away from children, and how you shouldn't take it if you're pregnant or nursing and if you're on medication you should consult a doctor before taking it. . . . Should we be mentioning this to customers? Like, who knows who is on medications and stuff, and I would feel really bad if there was a bad reaction between this and a med, or if it made the medication less effective.

I'm a faithful customer, not a barista, and I have a question about the iced Double Shot. I'm on Weight Watchers and was trying to figure out the nutritional information of the drink. I order it without classic, but the nutritional info on Starbucks.com includes the classic with no option to remove it. I know each pump of syrup is 20 calories... How many pumps of syrup are in the recipe for a grande iced double shot?
[I feel like this was an SAT question... "If each pump of syrup is 20 calories and the grande iced double shot has X number of pumps, what is the Weight Watchers Points Value for the drink, made with soy?"]

| Incomplete Greetings |
[17 May 2008|09:14pm] |
So... my store got a complaint the other day.
Apparently, he/she was not happy that only three of the four baristas in the store greeted him/her.
I guess we should be glad he/she didn't complain about not rolling out a red carpet for him/her.

Since it's too late to call my store and ask, and I know someone on here knows the answer: do we still wear our Pike Place shirts during this phase?
I just don't wanna show up all "BOLD" to work if I'll be the only one. Thanks!

| Blank Request |
[17 May 2008|02:11am] |

I have seen lots of macros/blanks of kittehs asleep on big books, but I need one specifically of a cat asleep/lying on a DSM (Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders). I don't know if such a blank even exists, but if anyone knows of one and can point me in the right direction, I'd be eternally grateful.

I'm currently trying to get a job at Starbucks. I went to a hiring fair last Saturday, and just got a call back today. They said I was a great candidate, but they were looking for people who could work more mornings and nights. Since I'm 17, I cannot.
My question is: when I got turned down, was it from a specific store or all the ones involved in the hiring fair? The person I talked to didn't specify and I didn't think to ask. During the interview, they said they were hiring at 6 stores in my area, but she told me on the phone that she had been looking for 1 or 2 people. Would it be a good idea to call the specific store I would like to work at and see if they're still hiring? I really want this job, so any suggestions are appreciated. :)

so, i thought this was funny and wanted to share with you guys..
hooking up with customers is probably worst then dating a fellow employee in your store. one of our customers was really cute and flirty with me so i wrote my # down on a cup lol and he called and we went out a couple times. so i texted him tonight to see if he wanted to hook up tomorrow but he went on to say that we had a "great starbucks relationship but we are 2 different people" so i replied with "well if it was just a starbucks relationship then you shouldnt have made out with me, i don't make that great of a carmel macchiato" he said "i was just trying to feel things out, sorry.. and yes you do"
ugh i'm so happy i got a promotion a week after i gave him my # and moved stores, talk about it would have been awkward monday morning..

The post about Seattle's Best and someone's comment gave me the idea for this post. Complete the following sentence:
"I love you, [name of your company], but [name of different company/location] does [product] better."
I'll start off... I love you, Starbucks, but Indigo Coffee does plain lattes better.
On Easter Sunday after mass, I walked into an Indigo Coffee because I had no idea where there was a Bux in downtown Tampa, and I needed coffee RIGHTNOW. I decided on a latte. I watched the barista make my drink using a manual machine, and was enthralled. When she handed it to me, I added one Splenda and took a sip. HOLY SHIT. The. best. latte. I have ever had in my life. The espresso was smooth and not at all bitter, and the milk/foam was sooo creamy and delicious. I have not had a latte that good ever since, nor have I been able to make one. So I have come to the conclusion that lattes from Indigo Coffee are simply better. The end. :)
Edit: Let's try to keep this coffee-related, lol...

| Bad barista booo |

So I kind of wanted people opinions. I was in a mall today and stopped at a Starbucks because my mom wanted a drink. I order an Iced coffee and my mom asked for an iced grande black and white mocha. At my store we put equal amounts of white mocha and chocolate mocha, shots, milk, ice yadda yadda to make our black and white mochas. When reciveing my moms drink they called out an iced grande white mocha :( I hated to do it but I was like oh no! it was suppose to be a black and white mocha :/ *feeling really bad cause they were super busy but my mom cant stand white mocha alone*. The barista apologized, took the cup back and looked at me a second later and was like "can I just put the drizzle ontop?" and I was kinda confused and I was like "hmm may I have it in the drink mixed with the white mocha?" and he got more confused than I and said "You want the drizzle in the drink?" Ohhh boy so I told him how my store made it and asked if thats how they made it to and he told me they make a white mocha with drizzle ontop then got a little aggravated and said "well can i just pump the mocha in this and stir it in?" I told him that was completly fine and I didn't want to look like a pain and apologized over and over. I just feel kind of bad was I out of line in anyway? Does my store make a B&W mocha wrong? Help heal a baristas soul :(

| Worker's Comp? |
[16 May 2008|08:12pm] |
So I broke my ankle yesterday while at work - I slipped on the floor after it had been mopped and fell on it weird - and according to the doctor, I'll be out for about five to six weeks.
My question is - what's Starbucks' policy regarding compensation for work-related injuries? I'm sure I have it somewhere in the package we receive as new baristas, but...my mobility is limited and I'm not sure where the package is. ^^ Is there any kind of paid leave, and if so, how long are you covered for? Does it depend on how many hours you were scheduled to work?
Thanks!!

A few random questions we've been throwing around for awhile, as well as a few scenarios I would like opinions on.
A) How would you mark melon syrup?
B) For those of you with SureShot: Do you use it to dispense cream base? We just got one in our store, and apparently it says in the manual not to use it with UBB, because of separation. Even though we don't use UBB anymore, our DM says we can't use it to dispense CBB until she gives us the OK. I think this is silly.
C) Also for those of you with Sureshot: We only use it on the weekends (because that's the only time we're even remotely busy - I'm in a mall store. Don't give us a Sureshot during holiday, when we make 22K a week...no...give us one when we make a whooping 7K), and this is our second weekend using it, so we've been throwing ideas around and planning our attack. My SM and a barista came up with the great idea to just make a bunch of cubes of base in the morning, so they all have the same expiration time, and then we don't have to change the tank out and we can just keep adding base throughout the day (because we're technically not adding old base to new base if its the same date), and not waste as many of those little tube things. Is it just me, or is that incredibly disgusting? I threw a mini fit, said there's no way I'm doing that, but they insist its fine. Am I right to be absolutely appalled by this?
D) For chocolate whip, wouldn't it technically expire when the mocha expires? Does anyone mark it like that, or does everyone just overlook that and mark it for the 24 hours?
E) Unrelated to Starbucks question, for those who have dogs: When you're out walking your dog, does it bother you when people approach you and start petting your dog? Because I do this, but I wonder if people hate it, or if they're flattered that you think their dog is so damn cute.
F) Anyone here work at Mayfair and Center in Wauwatosa? I thought someone had posted about their store manager winning the trip to Guatemala, and someone told me my new SM won the trip, so I'm wondering if the person who posted that will be in my new store?
EDIT: Man...I don't know why it grosses me out so much. I'm just really really not okay with it, partially because I read somewhere that its not okay. We were busy last weekend, and we switched them out all the time, and it was fine. Blech. Gross. Not doing it, even if its "easier".
