I'm learning to not judge books by their covers.
My semester started:
- Natural History Illustration
- Studio Drawing: Imagination
- Jazz & Blues Aesthetics
- Studio Painting: Tenebrism
- Psychology of Art & the Artist
I feel pretty good about this, other than my psychology class, which I think is ultimately wasting my time. I would change it, but I want to keep my schedule open, and I haven't found another class I want to take.
Speaking of keeping my schedule open, it's for my imaginary job that I'm never going to get. I've been in contact with this bakery I really want to work at, they interviewed me before I left for Alaska. She said she loved me, wanted to hire me, but I was leaving out of town for 3 weeks. She just told me to call her once I got back and we'd set up a schedule. Of course I called her, she told me she would call me back when she had some free time at the shop. She never called. I called back the next day, she told me they had been robbed and were doing damage control, and gave me her cell phone number to call her on the day she was doing the schedule. I called her, she didn't answer, so I left a message with my schedule. She didn't call back. I called her a few days later and said she never got the message. At this point I asked her if she even wanted to still hire me, she said yes o course, and said she would call me back when she left the store. She never called.
Long story short, I've been playing ridiculous phone tag, and I know they're overwhelmed by opening a new store, and getting robbed and whatever, and maybe I'm being obnoxiously persistant. But this is just frustrating beyond belief, I've been trying to find a job forever and I don't want to give up my only job lead. But goddamn, no one should have to jump through this many hoops for $8.50 an hour.
Anyway. I'm dying to paint with oils and suffering a serious lack of self motivation.
The weather's cooler and I'm feeling more comfortable. Definitely trying to avoid gaining the winter 15 this time around, or rather, add to the winter 15 I already have and can't get rid of.

I've been trying to find a place that sells those things that almost look like fish line, and you can hang your photos off them. (Unless everyone just makes them themselves?)

kayley helped me picked out new glasses today and they are absolutely ballin'. they werent what i thought they would be but they are pretty fantastic none the less. i am so excited to get them.
i am absolutely aching for fall. i cannot deal with this fucking shitty heat any more.
things are just okay right now - but i am learning to ride the wave of uncertainty. i figure ive been through so much already that one can't be much worse than the other. bring it on, future!

My husband's band, Quiet Company is in a contest to play Austin City Limits. ACL is a three day festival in Austin where tons and tons and tons of bands play. Quiet Company made it to the top 5 of the same contest last year but lost when it came to the battle of the bands round.
This year, they're at it again. Right now they are in 7th place. They need to be in the top 5 to secure a spot in the grand finale of battling :) They only need 150 votes to move up like.. 4 spots. That's insanely close.
Voting literally takes less than a minute. It's going on until Sept. 12th and you can vote every day from every e.mail address you have.
Even if you've never heard the band or live nowhere near Austin- please vote :)

hi there. sorry if this is redundant but i'm curious about creating a canopy/tent over a bed without actually having a canopy bed.
i've seen these kinds of things but they're not exactly as full and dramatic as i'd want.
i figured i could just buy some drapes and tack them on the walls and ceiling but i don't think that would be very substantial and half of my ceiling is slanted (i'm on the top floor of a house converted into apartments) so i'm a little lost.
anyway if you guys have any pictures, links, how-to's, tips/tricks about doing this, i'd appreciate it a lot :)
