Things I learned this morning on my drive in.
The War of the Worlds was meant to be an analogy of colonialism, the aliens representing the more advanced western Europeans and the British the natives.
It is estimated that the native population of Haiti in 1493 was about 8 million. After Columbus’s brother was set up in power he performed a census and found only approximately 1 million, though they estimate there was a total of 3 million since many had gone into hiding in the mountains. Within a 100 years the entire race of native Haitians was wiped out.
