Today, Carrie & I drove to the beach. We spent 2 hours on the 405, & she played me her favorite song, which was a great thing to be driving to. It was kind of overcast but the water was warm, and we swallowed our weight in salt water. We hit rush hour on the way home and listened to 90s music that feels like summer. Our hair dried curly & stiff from the salt, and there was sun coming over a mountain around the Getty. It was the kind of day when I don't hate LA as much as usual.

Hey, so I haven't posted here in FORRREVVVERRR. My journal used to be under the name of __lyla but with that sexy rename token LJ handed out to all of us with underscore starts, I got a free change.
I hit a ridiculous dead end with my journalling over the last year, and just as I hit a run of inspiration, I cut open my hand and had to get stitches so I can't hold a pen/paint brush/scissors any more.
Anyone been in the same boat, or anyone who just struggled finding inspiration but fought on regardless: how did you cope? Show me your pages :]

| Dudley Farm Historic State Park |
[17 Jul 2009|02:59pm] |
The Gainesville area - meaning stuff within half an hour's drive of G'ville - has a lot of "Paint Outs" in which artists come out to some historical site, spend the weekend painting and then selling their pieces at the location. Sarah took me out to Dudley Farm Historic State Park on a Paint Out Sunday. It was such an awesome experience. We got to speak with several painters. I wish I just had more money so I could buy the things I loved. One man in particular did a beautiful water color of just a window. It's simplicity was stunning.
Since this place is so rustic and beautiful, I took the Holga out with me again. Once you go Holga it's hard to use anything else. People digitally manipulate their photos to get the results I get from my Holga. Shooting with the Holga is like Christmas Day - you never know what kind of photographic gift your camera is going to give you. Here are my gifts from that trip.
From the Friends of the Dudley Farm website: Dudley Farm is an early pioneer farm established before the Civil War. Currently it covers 325 of the original 640 acres that were operated by the Dudley family for three generations. An authentic working farm, the homestead consists of eighteen buildings. These are restored - NOT recreated - and include the family farmhouse with original furnishings, an 1880's kitchen outbuilding, a general store and post office, and a functional cane syrup complex.
Come swing on my gate.

| Road Trip Photos! |
[17 Jul 2009|12:48pm] |
This summer my husband and I took a road trip to Virginia via I-95 to visit his mom and grandmother. Since we have to drive right past the US's most kitschiest roadside attraction, I could not help but stop and take pictures. And forget the digital camera. The Holga with all it's funky silliness and plastic lens made taking the pictures so much more fun.
Welcome to South of the Border!

I could never paint or draw to save my life, which is why photography intrigues me so. I still love to watch artists with a fair bit of envy, watch their process, and love the tools of their trade. Possibly Related Posts: Originally posted on poindexter, WHO?

So, I just remembered I had an LJ. Wow, does anyone read this now? In case anyone is out there, I started my own freelance photography company, primarily focusing on wedding photography and family portraits. Click here to view my site. Also, I just got featured on a really influential and trendy wedding blog, Rock N Roll Bride. Click here to see my feature! Anyway, if you guys are in the Central Fl area and looking for a photographer, I am always happy to help and I have competitively low pricing! If you get the chance, check out my pictures and feature! And now, an update on my life: I'm pretty excited about the pace everything has been moving in my life. I started professionally photographing about a month ago, and already I've booked so many things in the next few months, and I got this feature which usually takes people years! I mean, I am really just in awe. I've never felt like something was supposed to happen before, but now I know that feeling. My darling boyfriend surprised me with a designed website a few months ago and from there - everything has taken off! There a few people who begrudge my achievements and success, but my mom says that is always the case. Apparently, I just need to stay happy, and enjoy what I'm doing and not let the negativity take away from it. It's easier said than done, but I am mostly pulling it off. School is going fantastic, getting all A's, a double major, still graduating on time. Hopefully photography will pay for grad school because that is my ultimate goal. I just love learning, I want to keep doing photography for as long as I keep getting bookings, and if I can make a decent living off of it - it will only better my education. Anyway, aside from those things, my personal life is just okay. My room mate is moving out, and she and I had a falling out of sorts. It's rather upsetting but I've realized you can't win at everything and with everyone. My new roommate just bailed, she can't afford to live anywhere now, and is moving home. Sign of the times I suppose. Now I have a vacant room and bills to pay, and no real motivation to continuously find a new room mate. This is a constant source of anxiety for me. The boyfriend and I are doing well. We've been dating for nearly 6 months, and I must say it went by very fast. We had our differences at first but we've come around to each other. I've never been in a relationship that stated off shaky (arguments, disagreements, misunderstanding) and became stronger. I wonder how that ends up? We haven't even said we love each other yet; this is definitely all new to me. I don't know if it is better to love from the onset, with passion and rampant infatuation, or to love gradually, with trust and knowledge of the other person's many faces. Truly, I do not know. And yes, I believe there will always be a part of me that misses Chris. To that, I see no end. But he is happy and I am happy and that is good. Also, I have made a handful of new friendships this past few months that are really dear to me. Friends that I plan on having for a lifetime. I couldn't be more thankful for that. The end!

Moderat - Slow Match (feat. Paul St. Hilaire) |
] |
