Starting to feel like summer [15 May 2008|09:45am]

Last night was pretty much the perfect night!

When I got home I played with the dog, then did dishes and cleaned up the counters.
Then we took Cash for an extra-long walk. We walked up to the Victory neighborhood to see how long of a walk it was to Jake and Mindy's new house. They move in on Monday if all goes as planned. We are so excited!

On our way home Nate, Martha, and Rebecca were in the yard so we stopped by and talked for a bit. Rebecca and I talked about gardening, and she is going to go with me on Saturday to pick out some flowers.

Then Trevor and I made salmon burgers and cheesy potatoes on the grill. All was absolutely delicious!

We watched a couple episodes on DVD of "Undeclared" and then went to bed and watched an episode of "Coupling" before falling asleep.
It was great.

The only not great thing was that when I was cleaning in the kitchen I heard an accident and checked and found the accident occurred right in front of our house. I was relieved to see everyone get out of both vehicles and see that everyone was fine. Phew. A little bit of neighborhood excitement!

This morning Trevor dropped Cash off at the vet for his comprehensive exam. He has to stay there all day, so Trev will pick him up on his way home from work. He loves going to the vet, so he ran right up to the door. He was so happy until he realized he was going to the back and Trevor was leaving, instead of going into an exam room for a regular check-up. He is so smart. Trev said it was hilarious because he started scrambling all over the place, sliding everywhere on the floor trying to get to an exam room while the guy brought him to the back. Haha. Poor little guy. I hope he does well today!

Misheard [13 May 2008|09:39am]

shesaid
I got a good laugh at Trevor a week or two ago when he was singing,
"Oooh baby. Here I am. Sign says the limit, I'm yours!"
He did not believe me that it was "Signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours."
Hahaha.

Then we were making french toast one day and for some reason were singing "Whoomp! There it is" when I told him that before that song came out another one did shortly before called "Whoot There it is." He thought I was CRAZY and was laughing so hard at me. I started to doubt myself. Then last week I looked it up on wikipedia, and I am not crazy!

Tag Team - Whoomp! (There It Is Remix)

95 South Whoot There It Is

From wikipedia:

"Whoomp! (There It Is)" is a number one hit single by the Miami bass group Tag Team.

It sampled the 1980 disco hit, "I'm Ready" by Kano. Parts of the vocals are near identical to 95 South's "Whoot, There It Is", which had been released a month earlier.

So then last night Trevor was singing "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee" while he made hot dogs and got out the Sara Lee hot dog buns we got for free. I thought it was "Nobody does it like Sara Lee." So I had to google it and it turns out it is misheard as that often but Trevor was right! I guess you can't win them all.

Another grade was posted for me today. A in French. So now I'm just waiting for 2 more. I just want to know what my Art History grade is.

My grandfather has pneumonia, which is one of the highest causes of death in Alzheimer patients, so yeah. It's only a matter of time.

I start work on Wednesday. I'm working 10:30-7 Mon-Thurs and 10:30-6:30 on Friday. I hope I don't hate it.

So I'm trying to devise some sort of official title for the mystic physicians in my book.
I was using "Healer" for a while, but tacking that on in front of someone's name isn't working out. These folks have a distinct history as an order, their social role is sort of a monastic order but with medical skills, and they have their own cultish practices and secret gods.
For their title, I was thinking of various Latin/Greek derivatives...

Ophiuchus is the constellation called the "serpent-bearer", so I was thinking ('cause of the snake-staff associated with medicine) that something like Ophid or Ophian would be good.

I was also thinking about variations on Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine: Asclepians, for example. Their order is, for now, called the Order of Asclepius anyway, so that would probably make the most sense.

The problem with both of these is that the name Ina (a member of the order) would then be Asclepian Ina, or Ophian Ina, and those sound awkward. Of course that could be in part because Ina is a first name, and "Doctor" as a title sounds better with a last name after it, it seems.

Maybe I could just drop the inclusion of the name, and have people call the members of the Order by their title only? So Ina would be called by her given name by her friends and colleagues, but in a professional role she would simply be called "Asclepian" or "Ophian".

Thoughts?

We have been figuring out all the stuff we want to do with our yard this summer. On Monday we raked the yard, put together a new wheelbarrow, put up some temporary fence over areas Cash could get through....What we really want to do is get rid of the river rock that surrounds the house and plant plants! Haha. I need to get flowers for the big flower pots in the front again too. We also want to put up a new fence between our yard and the next door neighbor's yard, because the one that's there now is falling apart. We've talked about taking the fence out that's in the front of the house and just having the back fenced in so it's easier to play with the dog outside....and catch him to bring him back in! This summer we are re-roofing the garage, and hopefully a couple of Trevor's cousins will be helping with that (one is a roofer and the other works construction). So we'll see....The goal is to hang out at home more this summer and work on the yard and the house.

This summer we are using up all the time off we can from work, which isn't enough. We aren't going on any big trips but we have a bunch of family things going on, and we have to miss out on some or parts of some of these events. It's crazy. So I am expecting a summer of yard work, dog walking, and relatives. Hehe. We have every weekend planned for the next month or so, excluding the weekend after this, but we are thinking we'll be doing more painting so we can get the carpet in soon!

I haven't been to a show in a long long time so I am hoping I can do that soon. I'd love to go to one of North's shows sometime soon, and Damien Jurado and Jeremy Enigk have a show coming up that I can hopefully make it to.

This weekend Trev's parents are in town for Mother's Day. We're babysitting Milton on Saturday, so now it will be the 4 of us with Milton. We're going to take him to the Como Zoo, which should be fun. We also have two birthday parties to attend, and Mother's Day lunch on Sunday. I miss my family, but at least we will be in Sheboygan & Door County with them for Memorial Day weekend.

Advisory Board Nominations Begin

This morning we are opening the nomination process for the user-representative positions on the LiveJournal Advisory Board. A full description of the process can be found here.

To get you started, here are the basic things you should know:

- You may only nominate yourself
- Each nominee will need 100 motions of support in order to be eligible to be a candidate
- We ask that you keep your comments on the nomination posts to "I support this nomination" or something to that effect; be kind to those who will need to count the "supports", please.
- Although the nominations and election poll will take place in [info]lj_election_en, you do not need to watch the community in order to keep up with the election; we'll announce everything here as well.

Everyone here at LiveJournal is looking forward to this first-ever User-Representative election! We'd like to thank everyone who is participating. Some words from our current Advisory Board members:

danah boyd: “LiveJournal is filled with very passionate users. These users have helped shaped LJ's various communities over the last decade and it gives me great joy that LJ is recognizing and incorporating users' voices into the decision-making processes. Having user representatives from different parts of LJ on the Advisory Board will help make sure that the company is meeting the needs of its diverse constituents.”

Esther Dyson: "I'm sure we'll learn a lot from the process, and later on from the two users selected as well. Especially, I hope that the discussions before the voting will be more meaningful and more focused on policy than those in some offline campaigns."

Brad Fitzpatrick: "It's cool that SUP is getting users involved with the LiveJournal decision-making process. I look forward to seeing who the community elects and the results of our efforts working together."

Professor Lawrence Lessig: “The user elections will provide a critical check on LJ's process of maintaining a valuable and trustworthy environment for the LJ community. The mandate of the elections will give the user representatives pride of place among the members of the Advisory Board. Each of us will look to them to guide us in our judgment about how best to make LJ the community we all aspire that it will be. I look forward to welcoming the user representatives, and learning a great deal from them.”

[info]chasethestars has also made some banners for you to use, if you'd like to show your support for the candidate of your choice!

Apparently we're going to be hearing a lot from this Swede, Robyn

If there were any justice, the divas who've been trading off the No. 1 slot — Mariah, Madonna, and newcomer Leona Lewis — would also be slugging it out with a platinum-blond dark horse from Scandinavia. Enter Sweden's Robyn, who arrives Stateside with Robyn, an album that's a veritable parade of Songs of the Summer.
