MLB: When did you guys first meet?
DW: [Smiling] Come on - you're supposed to know that, Jose!
JR: I don't know - 2001? [Laughs]
DW: It was in the Instructional League in 2001. I was 18 years old. When Jose would take batting practice, or when he would take ground balls, you would see everybody on the complex, their heads would turn to watch him.
I remember being very young and Guy Conti coming up and putting his arm around me and saying, "You and Jose are going to be the left side of this infield for a long time." And that's something that really stuck with me. Now whenever Conti walks by, he'll always smile at me or wink and say, "I told you so." It came true.
