Theeen Saturday night my family leaves for Jamaica. We're flying to Miami, where we have a five hour layover then we're flying to Jamaica. I hope their airport has free internet or my dad takes me book shopping. ;^; I need to actually sit down and finish all the Night/Day/Twilight/Final-watch books. And maybe pick up the Farseer Trilogy... The day after we get back my brother is off to Boot Camp! I think my parent's decided we're leaving his room as is.. But I'll be using his computer like mad since I'll be able to play games again~! I've been playing Sims 3 like crazy the past few days and I kind of want to reinstall Guild Wars and see how much I still like it before getting the latest expansions... And what is this about Guild Wars 2? /so out of the loop Sleep schedule is still fucked up. Went to bed at 8 PM last night and woke up at 5. [15 Jul 2009|01:03am] cry_for_you [ mood | okay ] [ music | conan o'brien ] I was blessed with one of the most rewarding experiences of my life last week and I hope that for the rest of my life I get to experience similar events. One of the patients where I am volunteering tore down her drapes and used the hooks to cut herself and is consequently on one to one observation. Anyway, the day the staff found out about this, there was mass hysteria in the hospital and this patient was just a wreck (obviously) Anyway, I was put in charge of watching her and she was made to sit in the hallway in front of the nurse's station. For a long time she just lay there curled up on the floor crying. I felt so awful for her because I knew how much she was hurting and I know the pain and anguish that comes before cutting and the lie that it's going to make things better. I wanted to talk to her, but she is very closed off and doesn't talk a lot to anyone. After a while I decided that I would just ask her if she wanted someone to talk to and see what she said. And surprisingly, she just began talking to me. I got to talk to her for over an hour and she opened up to me more than I've ever seen her do. Technically, I am not really allowed to even write any of this because of HIPPA laws so I won't write about anything that was actually said, but this was my first time I ever got to help someone for real. Anyway, it was just an amazing experience and I told my mom about what I actually said to her and she said that she thought I was going to make a wonderful psychiatrist and that meant so much to me. I can't wait until I am an actual professional and get to do this every single day. But for now I just love getting to know these girls and be there for them. I get to know the more difficult patients better because I have to sit with them while they drink their supplements or have to be on one to one observation. I know some of the patients hate me, as they've been so kind to tell other staff members, but not everyone is going to like me and I am ok with that. I'm not there for people to like me, I'm not going into this career for people to like me. But the patients that do like me, I love and I hope that I make even some small sort of difference in their recovery. 1 comment|post comment
