Okay so like just so you guys know I'm not in fact dead (although that might be a slight upgrade):

I got a new 200 GB hard drive with a five year warranty and everything, got my puter running.  Yay!  But first thing: my backups were like from two years ago.  So in other words, I've lost all my camera pics, most of my fave wallpapers, and about half my music, and ALL my videos and TV shows.  My music library was about 12 gigs before the crash, now it's 5.  Revolting.  But I thought hey, I'll survive, I'll just go download them all back!

Wrong.  No internet.  Disconnected for non-payment.  Ironically whatever little money I had went into getting a new hard drive, so I can't reconnect it, and they'll probably fine me anyway, so I'm getting my ISP disconnected soon before they do that.  Meaning I have no internet and don't know when I'll get it.  It might not even be anytime this year.

Oh and I'm broke.  I mean really, really, really super broke.  Like, tempted to sell my cell phone, ass and kidney to eat kind of  broke.

Meanwhile, dengue fever is running around in Delhi.  I thought it was overblown media hype until one of my team leaders came down with it and is in hospital with the rest of the dengue patients.

Norte to self:  Must sell something and buy bug spray with it.

But at least my puter's running again.

Yeah, I probably won't be around online much anymore, looks like.

Off I go back to work.

Yikes! Stay away from the mosquitoes, though of course that is far easier said than done...

It will be easy actually, since the Aedes mosquito (the vector for Dengue) only bites during the day time. So I just have to be paranoid while the sun's up.

I'll be missing you like crazy. :(

But on the bright side, I won't feel guilty about working two jobs to save up money (faster) for the trip. ;)

Take care, Marcus. Stay safe and healthy. <3

Miss you too :-(

Update when you can, from work or wherever ... there's even an option now to update LJ by text messaging from a cell phone, but of course, one does have to keep and pay for the cell phone.

We'll be thinking of you. I hope you can get the finances in better shape and get that internet access again soon.

Got my cell phone working again, but that LJ update option through a text message thing doesn't work from India as far as I know...

If the service isn't available through carriers outside the U.S.A. and Canada yet, do you get e-mail and/or "mobile web" on your cell phone? There are settings to be able to update by e-mail and to browse a highly stripped-down, graphics-suppressed version of the site from one's phone, but that's not much of a substitute for the interactivity of the real LJ experience. I would still rather have you here, commenting and participating and really being a part of the community that we have here (you know, the one that I'm so hopelessly addicted to ..... ) The cell-phone stuff is just a temporary stopgap until finances improve, and I hope that is soon.

I do check e-mail on my cell phone when I'm away from my computer, but it's frustrating to see an announcement that someone has updated and not be able to read the entry.

Maybe I'll try texting you again. :D
_53_53 on October 12th, 2006 10:06 pm (UTC)
Again?

Yeah, my cell phone was out of service for a short while. But even then texting internationally depends on your provider :-/

Are you able to set up the link to receive text messages from your LJ user info page, or is your cell phone service provider not included for that?
_53_53 on October 12th, 2006 11:41 pm (UTC)
My provider's not on the list (Hutch / Orange) :(

an idea
Hey, I just thought of a way to raise funds that doesn't involve selling organs. You could always find some really old worn out looking clothes, go find some rich American tourists with guilt complexes (as in, most of them), and start begging. It would make for a great livejournal story (you could even bring someone along to photograph it--or better yet, video. in any case, just consider it performance art--heck, that's something I'd pay to see < evil grin >). It would be a win/win for everyone: they'd go away with their guilt assuaged--might even go home and tell their friends about how they helped someone, and you'd have your internet paid for.

Unless of course you want to be down a kidney... :-)

Re: an idea
LMAO well with all the alcohol and pepsi I inhale regularly, getting rid of a kidney might not be the smartest idea :-)

I just bought a $1200 some laptop and it doesn't have that much hard drive. That's nuts!

But that ISP sucks. That's like that story where the husband sells something to buy a pair of combs for his wife's hair, and she sells her hair to buy him a present.

I can't function without the internet.

I feel your pain.

$1200 for a G4 iBook, with only a 30GB hd!
The Patron Saint of Dextromethorphan_synthemesc_ on October 13th, 2006 08:13 am (UTC)
oh my god, that's ridiculous! Is that an Apple computer?

My laptop has 80 GB hard drive. My desktop only had like $60. But then again, my desktop sucked.
The Patron Saint of Dextromethorphan_synthemesc_ on October 13th, 2006 08:14 am (UTC)
Hahaha, I meant 60 GB, not $60.
That Girlflutterish on October 13th, 2006 09:45 pm (UTC)
Yes. An Apple. She is my pride and joy though. :)
