Stingrays turning up in Australia with tails cut off, authorities suspect idiots retaliating Steve Irwin's freak death as motive
Um, wow, that's retarded on so many levels I'm not sure where to start.  Stingrays are placid, shy and not agressive, and it is common for skin divers to play and frolic with them.  They're less dangerous as housecats.  In all of recorded history, only seventeen people have ever been killed by a stingray, Steve Irwin being the most recent and for all intents and purposes a freak accident.

Talk about missing the point.

um, besides: it's not like that's 'showing them'
they're not sentient*

like they're going to have a meeting and go "oh gosh, we better not sting popular people' or else there could be another unprecedented wave of retaliation, the likes of which our species has never seen before."

*wait, the string-rays or the dumb-asses cutting off their tails?
