So, I'm going to try and write about Cobra/TAI/Panic without excessive use of capslock. Hahaha, yeah. That's going to happen.
RYAN FUCKING ROSS.
Ahem. Okay, so! I had a seat because I'm a fucking pansy and didn't want to get crushed to death by tiny brightly-coloured fangirls. Also I went with two of my siblings and they are OLD. It was awesome anyway! We came in after the first act, which was fine by me, because, well fuck the first act. I have a tendency to not care about live bands unless I already know their songs, so I probably would've been bored anyway. Although Ryland said they had a shirtless chick drummer, so I might be wrong.
ANYWAY it meant that I got to see COBRA STARSHIP first! They only played like, six songs, but it's COBRA FUCKING STARSHIP so those six songs were basically worth the ticket price all on their own. GAAAAAAAAAABE. And Gabe and Ryland being precious! And Suarez rocking out! And WILLIAM BECKETT! And SISKY DOING THE RAP! And also there was a tiny bit of Hollaback Boy! And and and *FLAILS* COBRA ARE THE BEST BAND.
Then I wandered out in the break to check out the alleged Cobra signing, but apparently it was taking place during TAI, so, fuck that.
TAI's set left me with a new appreciation for SISKY, because apparently Sisky is made of awesome and somehow that managed to escape my notice before now. My epiphany possibly has a lot to do with with bass players* being like, fucking kryptonite to me. Other highlights included MICHAEL GUY CHISLETT, WILLIAM BECKETT, and HOW MUCH WILLIAM BECKETT LOVES MICHAEL GUY CHISLETT. Ugh, it was toxic levels of platonic preciousness. Also, Chiz referred to the new album as "Fast Times at Cherrybrook Tech" which made me make high-pitched squeaky noises like a ridiculous fangirl. (Because Cherrybrook Tech is not that far away from where I live, and also my mum taught there for a few years. Shut up, I am ridiculous, I know) I may or may not have changed the album name to that in my iTunes.
*Okay, so, there's an exception to my bass players = kryptonite rule. That rule is Jon Walker. I am sorry, Jon Walker fangirls. During the first song I had to text Mandi with "Jwalk SO unattractive". I was a little blown away by it, to be honest, because in a lot of stills (particularly the earlier ones) I thought he was kind of pretty. I think mostly it's the way he holds his bass. It's like he's trying to hold a phone between his ear and his shoulder while he plays or something.
But, y'know, whatever, it's not like I paid attention to anything other than RYAN ROSS after the first thirty seconds. I just... Ryan Ross, people. He was my first bandom love, and then my interest waned somewhat, but he was just so amazing on stage. I was so utterly charmed, by his singing, by his playing, by his little visits to Spencer, and especially by like, every single thing he said. It's like he's made of motherfucking sunshine, honestly. He fills me with joy. Because I am lame like that.
I feel like I should say something about Brendon? I mean, his voice was amazing, but I was so mesmerised by RYAN ROSS that I paid about as much attention to Brendon as I did to... the keyboard dude whose name I can't recall. (Sorry, keyboard dude. I am sure you are a very lovely person.)
TL;DR THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CAPSLOCK IN THE WORLD FOR RYAN ROSS THE END.
