What is hotlinking?
Hotlinking, otherwise known as bandwidth theft, is the intentional usage of someone's bandwidth without that person's authorization. It is direct linking to a website's files (images, etc.). An example would be using an < IMG > tag to display a JPEG image you found on someone else's web page so it will appear on your own site, journal, weblog, etc.

A simple analogy for bandwidth theft if you still haven't got it: Imagine a random stranger plugging into your electrical outlets, using your electricity without your consent, and you paying for it.

Hotlinking is bad! Most people have a certain limit on their bandwidth for each month. This data transfer occurs every time someone views an image, a webpage, or downloads a file from the hosting account. When you use someone else's image without uploading it to your own host, you are using up the other person's bandwidth. If the person goes over their limit, two things can happen:
1. Their account can be shut down for the rest of the month. If they use an image host this may simply mean they won't be able to post their images anywhere until the new month begins. If they own a website, this will mean that nobody will be able to view anything on their website, not even web pages, until the new month begins.
2. They can be charged overage fees, just like on a cell phone, and these fees usually are not cheap.

thetissuebox implemented a new rule, saying that if hotlinking for our photobucket account goes past 50%, we will permanently shut down the community. Our account has been shut down once, the we couldn't post icons for a month. So we WILL NOT tolerate hotlinkers.

How do I credit?
Crediting is a MUST. If you know how to take icons and upload them, you should be able to credit. Go to edit pics and in the keywords box, you enter a keyword for the icon. It can be a word from the icon or the name of the person in the icon, whatever you'd like! Then, in the comment box, you enter <*lj user="thetissuebox"*>. (Take out the asteriks.) Then, you save settings and you have credited properly!

We do routine icon credit checks, and you are put on a warning list if you did not credit. We give you a few days to properly credit the community, and if you don't, you are banned. There is a banned list, and if you don't know why you were banned, leave a comment there, and kwidine will answer your questions.

Do you take requests?
Sometimes we do, but we make separate request entries for that. Once the request entry is closed, do not request any more. Your request will be ignored. We might also customize some icons for you if you ask at that entry.

What font is that? Where do you get your brushes?
If you haven't noticed, if you ask those types of questions, you are ignored. We do not have enough time to answer all your questions about how we make our icons. There are hundreds of fonts, I'm sure you'd do fine if you didn't have the EXACT font I have on a certain icon. And you surely wouldn't expect me to remember which font I used for each icon, would you? Good.

Can I add the maintainer and moderator's private livejournals?
NO!!!! If you do, you will be BANNED from the community. Do not ask us questions about making an icon, crediting, why you were banned in our private livejournals. That is what this journal is for. So if you have a question, ask it here!

If you have any more questions, leave a comment here!
