You know, I was thinking-- all of us have owls, and all of us are using them to send messages to one another, but we never really give them any credit. Sure, we all love our owls and treat them well, but... we never say anything about them...
So, I thought I would introduce my owl to everyone who doesn't know him.
His name is Daemon. The origin of that name lies in Greek mythology. Daemon was the word they used to signify beings that were neither god nor human, but something of a mix. They were believed to be determining the fate of humans (a similar role to the Roman term genius), and were often represented as massive spirit horses. Christians misinterpreted the creatures of Greek lore as some sort of devil, hence the modern word demon.
But, that aside, he is an elf owl. So, those of you who have seen him, and were wondering if he was fully grown, that is as large as he'll ever be. Father got him for me in Mexico. They're native to that area, so he actually prefers a warmer, dryer climate, but he seems to like it well enough here. Not to mention, he was very excited by all of the big trees. Bloody bird nearly flew into the whomping willow, my first day.
Oh, and he will play opossum if you startle him. He's not timid, but, still-- be aware of that.
And, for those of you who are rolling your eyes and calling me a poofball... Don't care. Oh, and on a slightly more relavent note, I may be a bit scarce for a couple days. I have a big test in potions coming up. I swear, that man doesn't like me. Should you need to find me, I'll be in the library, hiding in a book.
