365 Grateful Project - 106 @ 11:20 am

106.

Grateful that I ended up in this strangely beautiful,  prickly, unrelenting, and unforgiving place that I have grown to love so much.

365 Grateful Project - 57 @ 01:01 pm

2014-02-27 09.02.41

57.
10 dolla! And that's not even showing the cucumber and the handful of tomatoes i gave away, nor the cucumber Jet and I already ate. (cucumber sliced with wishbone italian salad dressing is one of Jet's go-to snacks.)
I took this yesterday but didn't have the energy to post it, when the time came. To do all that little typing on my phone, or to get on the laptop. This is my 10th day with a fever and no other symptoms other than a drag-ass fatigue and that's totes not right. So of course I'm convinced that it is something REALLY BAD and my super immune system is just allowing me to plow through it (like, remember the walking around -- and going to friday night bowling league and doing tequila poppers! -- for three weeks with a misdiagnosed ruptured appendix?!).

Anyway, I was going to post this yesterday not because i was grateful for all that super fresh food for $10 (which I am, and grateful that market on the move has a wednesday pick up time now, too) but because dropping off produce at a friend's and chatting for an hour reminded me that I wanted to post about being grateful for this:

Jet has a friend that he goes to school and bowls with (although apparently they are not "friends" in school this year, because they don't ever see each other) and he's been bowling with him for years and I frequently drive him home from tournaments (one year when they bowled on Mondays I would even bring him over here after school and take them both to bowling). Anyway, to get to the point, last week or whenever it was, I was dropping him off after a tournament and his mom (who is who i was giving produce to and chatting with yesterday and thus reminded) thanked me and I said it was my pleasure and that we all just talked non-stop the whole drive home. And she said that *he* had said that he really enjoys the car conversations. And he was loitering around right there still with us while she said it, so you know it's true! And he didn't even get all "aw mom. GAWD." embarrassed when she said it.

And I just thought ... how *nice* that is to tell me that. I mean, nice that he does (which is no small thing), and nice that he told her (which is even bigger), but how *nice* to pass that on to me. Especially because we've come along way from him not making eye contact with me and the very quiet one word answers; I've basically worn the kid down under a barrage of chat over the years but you know what? it worked! And I spent a lot of last Sunday (or whichever sunday it was) feeling really grateful for the whole situation and mostly for her having taken that extra second to pass that information on to me. Because a lot of times people don't. They think it, and they are happy about it, but they don't just say the words to make it a thing outside of themselves.

Anyway, that's your sappy grateful for today! Or, actually, yesterday. Since this should have been yesterday's message. Expect some other grateful picture later today.

Going to the dr. at 9:50 (cancelled nanny today so as not to infect babe with whatEVER it is I have and also cancelled bowling for same reasons and dr. appt) so I hope to post grateful that it's just an asymptomatic cold and i'm being a paranoid hypocondriac picture.

p.s.   as an aside, Imma take those eggplants and tomatoes and zuccinis and remember the peppers from last time? and all my own onions and thyme and basil and make a ratatouille out of that for the TAC luncheon next week. Might not be Mardi Gras per se but it's colorful and plentiful! Anybody has ratatouille tips, lay 'em on me!

Putting this here because I've told more than one person I would give them the recipe and then I never do. So instead of posting it hither and yon in comments where I've promised it, I'll just direct back to this. This is a lower carb/higher protein bread machine bread. The recipe exactly as written below looks like this:

Merry Christmas eve! @ 02:21 pm

New asymmetrical bob for Christmas.   Now with bangs!   And the best rich dark brown color I could have asked for,  in a color created just for me.   Also got fancy glitter red nail polish and my first-ever eyebrow wax today too.

We did our usual big Christmas eve dinner last Sunday so tonight it will be just us.   We'll have the same dinner again but just less of it.   And we'll do our traditional "roll for gifts":  when I was growing up,  the eve is what we celebrated the most,  with dinner and drinks and we opened all the "family" presents.   Christmas Day was for Santa and hanging out with friends,  playing with your new loot.  Jim grew up not opening anything on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day being the day you opened everything, did family dinner,  etc.   We have since compromised our traditions by opening SOME gifts Christmas Eve.  We always open everything to/from the people here for dinner of course but for our own family gifts,  stuff from grandma,  etc it is that you pick a gift and roll a dice - odd and you open it,  even and it waits for Christmas morning.   Is fun!

Traditionally we spend Christmas Day with l/h and have dinner there so I don't know what we'll do tomorrow with them out of town.   lounge about in pajama all day,  I suppose!

Christmas present for one of my favorites girls.   Not a super clear photo but I just poured the resin an hour ago and so don't want to move it to better light.

Throwback Thursday @ 02:27 pm

Throwback Thursday.   This was when I was .... what? apparently trying to get on the cover of a Warrant album?

I remember taking this picture because I remember I was trying to get a picture of my hair color and I thought my arms looked stupid hanging down.   It wasn't supposed to be cheesecake (or i probably would have shaved!!).  As a side note, my mom had made me that blue halter top YEARS prior to this photo and I wore that thing to death (it was a wrap halter that tied in back).

Happy Thanksgiving @ 04:38 pm

Tags:

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite holidays because it has all the things a good holiday should have - food/cooking leading to leftovers, football, lots of hanging out and laughing (it's a Whole Day holiday), family and/or best friends, and lounging all day. Plus, it takes place in the fall, with the best weather.  And there's a bonus day off the next day!

This Thanksgiving hasn't failed to deliver. The meal (a communal effort) was delish, the company excellent, and not just football, but raiders and steelers football. (And did I mention my totally comfy velour pants? )**

Jet and I are grateful everyday for pretty much everything because that's just how we roll. Jim, too, but even though I am smooshed right next to him on the couch, his head couldn't squish in here.

**I don't think I did, here. But early I posted:

I am in velour lounge pants, a steelers jersey under my harvest-orange Faded Glory sweater from the thrift store, flaunting my recent pedi with barefeet, curled up on the couch with my husband, watching football and checking my fantasy scores, while someone else is getting ready to get dinner ready.

And both the Raiders and the Steelers still to come today!

::living the american dream::

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, be happy and loving wherever you are.

National Jr. Honor Society @ 06:42 am

In other news, they lost their playoff game yesterday.   held steady in the first half but just fell apart in the second and ended up losing by 20some points.   The other team was just too big for them to defend consistently.   Jim and I brought pizzas, though, so there was still revelry to be had afterwards.

They play today in the "consolation game" for third place.

Catching up from yesterday @ 01:13 pm

Lj, this is the excitement you missed yesterday:

Thanks to their stunning upset of All Sport Academy (a charter with a bit of a different focus than BASIS!) Jet's flag football team managed to squeak into the playoffs as the lowest seed.   Their first tournament game was yesterday against the very efficient looking (watching v them warm up) La Paloma - Central:

(pregame warm up under rare rain clouds)

They went in to halftime up 12-6.  Jet had one sack and one pressure that turned into a panicked throw into triple coverage (which resulted in an interception which we subsequently scored because of).

(Start of the second half)

And, in a nail biter of a finish, THEY WON!!

Scored on the second-to-last play of the game to go up 24-21.  Batted down the other team's last ditch hail mary on the last play and now we move on to the next round today.   If they win, championship tomorrow!

Benefit at Agua Linda Farm @ 12:04 pm

Many of you are familiar with Agua Linda Farm's fall festival.   Tomorrow is the last day of this season and they are having a benefit for Laurel's mom, who was in a horrific car accident the day before the festival opened.   All the proceeds -- admission remains $5 a person -- will go toward the mounting expenses that are resulting from the accident.

Joey Burns from Calexico will be doing a solo/acoustic show starting at 4p.m.

Further info in the photos behind the cut.  Agua Linda had been a direct-to-consumer contributer of organic and sustainable agriculture in our community for years.  I hope you will come out and support them off you are able.

Photo a day : Still @ 03:10 pm

Keeping these still so the resin can harden.  These are a little mainstream for my personal taste but I thought they might appeal to the more mainstream crowd at the fall festival I am working this month.  At least I will finally have some done by the last weekend!

I took the picture planning to say that my  first world problem was that I didn't win the 50/50 at ladies league this morning.  And then I won!  So I guess my first world problem is that it was only $10.50.  (Although that pays for beer next week!)
