blahblah [Oct. 12th, 2011|02:42 pm]

Havent posted in over a month but I come here once or twice a week to read....so here's a rambling update: Hawaii was fun. i'm still dating that dude and it's getting serious. the finale of breaking bad was really awesome. it is fall here. My sister sent me a practically brand new record player and so i'm excited about getting decent speakers and all my favorite albums on vinyl. I really like pho. My chickens' pen is unbelievably muddy and gross thanks to all the rain but they are so cute when I let them out into the yard on weekends... getting 6 eggs a day is pretty awesome too. I made mashed cauliflower the other day but I used soy milk which was minorly sweetened and it tasted like crap. I'm going to make beef stew tonight. I love instagram. I want to make salted caramel cupcakes and quiche lorraine this weekend. I've watched about 5 scary movies in the past 2 weeks and I love this time of year. I am on the 4th game of thrones book and I love them so much. I'll be sad when I'm done with the next one and I have to wait for years for the next. I donate plasma twice a week. I never have enough money for things like crockpots decorated with mushrooms, a trip to the oregon coast or the painted hills, more records, or new clothes. Where does it all go? Most likely to my burger quest.. i have one or two a week and i'm determined to find the best in town. I got a new duvet for my comforter. My cat is awful and mean, but I still love her. I'm going to be a zombie for halloween.

A trip to Seattle [Jul. 11th, 2011|11:33 am]
in absentia

These are from my trip up to Seattle a few weeks ago. Was tons o' fun! I got a really sweet light leak on this roll and I finally figured out how to do it, if I wanna do it. Usually it just happens sporadically, somehow the light gets in through my film door and it's a happy accident. This time however, I wasn't paying attention and opened the film door before I had wound the film back. SO. IF U WANT LIGHT LEAKS. Open and close the film door at the very end, quickly, and then wind your film back. You'll lose the last photo at least and possibly more, but I think it can be worth it! It certainly made this roll more interesting, and I even got on the front page of Flickr Explore with the picture of the cake (after the cut)... i make explore every so often (make sure you save EXIF data, tag your photos, put in no more than 5 groups, yall) but i think this was the first time i got front page which is pretty cool!

5k, pictures, etc. [Jun. 8th, 2011|01:08 pm]
in absentia

So, I ran my first 5k last Saturday and unfortunately it was not a 100% success. It was the hottest day of the year, in the 80's and even hotter downtown at sundown amongst all the streets and asphalt. I took it easy the night before, ate healthy food during the day, but I did not drink enough water throughout the day. Before the race started I just remember being perpetually thirsty... I drank a bunch before the race but it just wasnt enough... maybe that whole day I had had about 4 cups of water? usually by that time I'm over 8. Anyway, throughout my training I have never, not once, had to stop for water or run with water. Sure, I get thirsty, but I just drink before and after and it's NBD. It's only a 35 minute thing and I've never had a problem.
So, about a mile and a half in, I get thirsty. REALLY thirsty. I'm struggling to swallow and wet my lips but there is just NOTHING there. My skin is bone-dry, no sweat or anything of the sort. I felt sick. All these people were running past me with bottles of water they had brought themselves (none was given out on the route for the event) and I just was dying to ask someone for water but wouldn't let myself do it in the mind-set that they came prepared and I wasn't, so I shouldnt bring them down. So I keep pushing through, and then I feel my left hamstring start to tighten up. Keep running, keep running until I feel it clench up, like a fist or a charley horse or whatever, and so I stopped, and walked for the rest of the race except for the very end. At that point, even the walking was a struggle. I tried to keep running a few times but my body just would not do it. I came very close to injury and my leg hurt until yesterday, so about 3 days it took to heal.
So, I am disappointed.. yes I finished the race, but I did not meet my goal of running the whole thing nonstop. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE RUN 3 MILES BEFORE MULTIPLE TIMES. So technically, I met my goal, but NOT the goal of running an official race/run nonstop. So... I'm doing another one July 24th to benefit colon cancer research. It's around the waterfront so there wont be much in the way of hills, and I have 2 more months of running 3 miles a run and acclimate to hotter temperatures. So, I am starting training again tonight after work since I feel all healed up.

In other news summer has me feeling all manic... i've been buying stuff nonstop and going out for food/drinks excessively when I really shouldn't be. I want more tattoos, a new haircut, a new bra, etc. Got some new impossible project film i'm excited to try out, and working on a new blog... like I don't have enough already. Hope everyone is having a swell summer. Here's some pics... I'm back to using the AE-1 lately.. this is a photo dump of 35mm from the past few months. I have some polaroids and mamiyas i need to get up on here eventually...

Mamiya love [May. 2nd, 2011|11:25 pm]

[What am I listening to? |lykke li]

Not a whole lot going on with me. The Blazers are done, so that's three nights a week of my life I have back. Training for the 5k is going super well, I'm already up to 2.25 miles at a time in just a few weeks. I am more than on schedule for my run on June 4th so I'm pretty excited about that. Stopped seeing that guy I mentioned... he turned out to be super neurotic and would text me nonstop. I had to ignore him so much, because ANY response I would give him would just invite a barrage of constant texting afterwards. Hate. That. So. Much. There were other things too, mostly just him being super awkward and weird. WHY weren't these things more noticeable on the first few dates? LOL. Dating is funny. Anyhoo, I realized I haven't posted photos on here in awhile, so here are the first few rolls I shot on my new (to me) Mamiya C330. This is a beast of a camera to use... first of all, it's heavy as shit. It doesn't have an internal light meter. The viewfinder is a mirror image of what you are actually seeing/shooting so it's confusing to frame the shot you want to. I bought an external light meter but it's even more confusing than the camera, so now I just guestimate on exposure. I shot with my Canon so long that I kind of know what speeds not to go below, and when lighting is too low to even bother. Anyway this thing is really growing on me, I've got two rolls I'm dropping off this week... excited to see how they turned out.

First Mamiya shots...Collapse )

Miscellaneous Polaroids [Mar. 11th, 2011|02:22 pm]
in absentia

Last night had the best night ever: I painted my nails and watched jersey shore with Shola, then we met some friends and feasted upon fried chicken at the Reel M Inn, then got macarons at Pix, and THEN went to (walmart) which was the first time for me in well over a year. Their prices are so low! Seriously! So tempting to go there more often, it's really not that far from my house... but the shopping experience leaves a lot to be desired, not to mention their superunfair business practices. I didn't buy anything, just went with a friend who needed some junk for his new jeep, which we're gonna party in with the roof off pretty much all summer. So all that good shiz is happening, and then the tsunami happens while we are sleeping. Life is so weird, and unfair, and sometimes it's your day, and sometimes it isn't. My mom, who lives in Florida, called me at 4am frantically to see if I was ok. Yes mom, I'm FINE.. I've got a good 100 miles and a huge mountain range between me and the ocean!

Anyway this weekend is shaping up to be quite an uneventful one, and I guess I like it that way. The less obligations I have right now, the better. I am getting down the very last packs of my polaroid which I stockpiled 3 or 4 years ago. It's already looking brown and expired, so I guess thats for the better. I bought a Mamiya and developed my first roll of black and white on it. The pictures turned out ok but I'm still getting used to using the dang thing (2-step focusing system, heavy, no internal light meter, images are backwards in the viewfinder)so the composition of them didnt really blow me away. I'm going to shoot some color next and think more about the focus/composition... the canon ae-1 is so much easier to use!

Johanna with some of her awesome prints

johanna talking about her photos

So my gallery party went GREAT! I sold some stuff, just about all my friends showed up, the place was packed from beginning to end. My fever had finally broken that day around 2pm, so I was finally starting to feel better that night and I had a really great time. My pal Lisa took me home and we got celebratory Zack's Shack hot dogs and then I fell asleep like a log. My photos will be up the entire month of March so maybe you should stop by and buy all of it, would you?

In the meantime I've been daydreaming of taking off for Florida for a few months and help out with tax season at my old job. I found out today though that they had JUST hired someone to do admin stuff, so I don't know that they need me as bad as before. I'm beyond admin anyway but that was one of my selling points - I could take care of all the admin, bookkeeping, and do some returns for them too. They haven't responded to my email yet, and they probably could still use me, so maybe they are still considering it, I don't know. I just feel really stagnant at my current job and could use some vitamin D. However, it would suck looking for work upon my return, so maybe it isn't worth it after all. Meanwhile, all the classes I need at PCC are already full, and I can't even register until tomorrow! I so I need a Plan C to get out of this funk and keep myself occupied. Who even knows anymore. Spring is ALMOST HERE so maybe once the sun comes out I'll start feeling better... but in my experience, spring in Portland is a cold, spastic, rainy time with really weird weather, so I expect more of the same until May or June. C'est la vie. Thank you Janet and John for the above event photos :)

[How am I feeling? |sicksick but excited]

Come to this! I was just getting over strep when I came down with the flu. I've had it going strong for about 3 days... it has singlehandedly ruined a promising first date for me and is threatening to ruin my show tonight BUT I WON'T LET IT!

If you are in the Portland area, come on down! Tons of different things to look at or purchase, from dirt cheap to pretty cheap! <3
