Well! I'm going to be on Suspense with Ethel Barrymore! Our piece is entitled To Find Help - but I'll let you see what it's about....

In other news, I'm starting a new film called Take Me Out to the Ballgame
with my old friend Frank Sinatra and Esther Williams. It's an idea I came up with, I wanted to pay tribute to the old days of baseball. I'll keep you posted with my news.

I miss my gang! Cyd, Fred....this means you!

Holidays said and done, all decorations put away, Kerry back in school...

What is a man to do?

I'll tell you what! We're rolling right along with The Three Musketeers.
Lana Turner is back on board the project - she was taking a suspension rather than take her roll in this film, as she thought it was "secondary".

Life around the house has been rather quiet. Betsy is going on auditions and that takes up most of her time. Usually I'm left to my own devices, which these days is mostly looking at all of the fights on our new television. I really enjoy boxing...

With Christmas just around the corner, I find myself longing for a Yankee Christmas. California weather doesn't suit the holidays in my opinion. But I think I'll settle down with some egg nog and light the fireplace - clad in shorts and sweating, of course ;)

After the holiday, I'm going to be working on The Three Musketeers - I'm sure you all know the basic story line! I'm still not too sure of the production status as there has been some chaos with the casting. Lana Turner was initially supposed to be a part of this film, but she turned it down, and says she'd rather have the studio suspend her. As you can imagine, LB had something to say about that....

Meanwhile, I'm going out tomorrow to buy a television. Men - you're all welcome to come over and crowd around it as my wife has no interest in it.

A thousand pardons for being so scarce of late!

Thanksgiving in the Kelly family went well. We went to Pennsylvania to visit my old stomping grounds, and I showed Kerry how to ride a sled. She had so much fun going down the street (our house is on a hill, so you start at the top and "cruise" the block!) so much so that both of us have had miserable colds ever since. But it was a great time.

Now we're at home relaxing, getting ready for Christmas. Christmas is so much fun when you have a small child - Kerry sees everything as magical and special, and that rubs off on me. My wish this Christmas would be to have more children, but as I've said before....that's not going to happen.

Now as for gifts, for the family I'm going to buy that new RCA television tube.
A 16" television!! Can you imagine??

More intrigue from the set today.

So when I came home, naturally I told Betsy what had happened. She was more interested in what was so naughty to have Mayer fly off the handle like that!
I tried to explain the sequence, and while she didn't blow up, I can tell that she's a bit....miffed.

Back to the old doghouse for me. I'll be gazing at the stars this evening, with a nice slow sipping Scotch...

Things on the set of The Pirate are growing more...fun by the day.

I spent the last couple of weeks trying to get the Nicholas Brothers included in the film. They're tap dancing brothers, you might remember them from Stormy Weather. It was a struggle, because the studio heads were concerned because the brothers are black. But I kept telling them, this is 1948! Things are changing! I can't stand this backward thinking. A talented performer should be taken just as that - not as a talented black performer.

Anyway, they finally agreed to put them in the film. Yesterday, we're going through one of the routines and it seemed to me like Harold was half-assing it. (Which if you know me at all...) So naturally I said something. Harold just gives me this look, and goes through the entire routine - flawlessly. An open mouth, insert foot moment for me. Sometimes I get a little too hasty, but I just like for things, especially dance routines, to be perfect.

Cole Porter agreed to write the songs for the film, but only if a character name was changed, so that was another little situation.

Also, Judy is sick and has missed the passed 14 shooting days. We're shooting around that of course, and it gives time to perfect all of the other dance numbers...but it makes me nervous. We have 135 days alloted for filming and missing 14 is quite a lot....I hope she's okay...
