Layout and Christmas - I Fall So Hard

Layout and Christmas

I finally updated my layout with the header by carina84 (Thank you, Carina). I'm not crazy how the layout overwhelms the header. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the layout/header more even looking? I'm not sure what I should do...

And I have another question... Does anyone have a scanner? I might ask for one for Christmas, but I'm not sure what to look for. What brands are the best, quality, etc. I looked at ads this weekend, but it seems like only printer/scanner/copiers are being sold at electronic stores.

On a happy front, I got three Ebay items today! They're all Christmas presents- three Ipod Shuffle leather cases for my oldest nephew, a Coach rhinestone star keychain for my sister, and three red Coach items for (a wallet, a coin purse with keychain, and a keychain) my mom to match the fake Coach (it's a red leather tote with suede and the brown signature print), but still rather expensive, purse my sister and me bought her for Christmas on Harwin Street. It's a street full of stores in Houston, notorious for fake purses. I've been once before with my parents, but went recently with my mom and sister. My sister kept talking about "back rooms," where the fake merchandise looks pretty real. Store owners can be arrested for that, so they only show stuff to people they don't suspect are feds or police. Since it was Sunday, there were only a couple of places open. We did manage to find one back room! :) I told my sister that I thought it was a fable. It was pretty cool, though. Her husband called while we were shopping, and asked what she was doing. She told him about the back room, and he thought she said "bathroom." LOL! So, now I call it the bathroom...

Anyway, I think I'm doing most of my Christmas shopping online. I hate the Christmas crowds. I've already ordered a mah-jong bracelet for my aunt. I plan on going the Amazon.com route. My mom will be getting an Amy Tan book, while my sister is getting the new Anne Rice. My dad, if he doesn't come up with something soon, will be getting a Steelers stein. It's pretty nice. My oldest nephew (10 y.o.) is getting an Astro's sign, an Astro's calendar, and mad lib books. My youngest nephew (8 y.o.) is getting some Bunnicula books. I also am getting him a football french memo board that I need to buy this week. I already have a ton of cool stuff for my niece (5 y.o.) (hair things, a purse, cheerleading shorts, etc.). My dad's getting a dress shirt, because they rarely have his size, and they are expensive. Then, all I'll have left is my brother-in-law, who is getting a gift certificate to Smoothie King. :)

I have an HP PSC 750, it's a scanner/printer/copier in one and it works very well. I'm not sure about just scanners though.

It sounds like you've got some great presents picked out! Online shopping really is the way to go. I'm getting a lot of gifts online too :)

About the layout. If I were you, I'd use lighter and softer colours for your LJ-ayout. The purple is too harsh to go with the header. The header itself has really soft colours. It would look a lot better in an LJ that uses those soft colours. There are some beautiful greys, blues, pinks and yellows in the header. I don't know if you have Photoshop or something like that, but if you have it, you could open the header in that programme and take some different colour samples. Then you can use those colours in your LJ-layout. I always do that and then the colours of my LJ match my header. That way the whole LJ will look like it's especially made up for your banner and your header will draw more attention to it.

Of course, this is just a suggestion. It's all up to you what you do with you own LJ.

I've got a HP scanjet 5400C. Have it for 2,5 years now and it works like a charm. Of course there are more modern scanners out there these days, but HP is always a solid choice.

PS: although I'm not a Sam/Martin shipper I have to tell you that the banner is beautiful. carina84 did a great job.

Thank you so much! I'm kinda' attached to this purple (it's so pretty to me!), but I totally agree. I probably want to go with a much lighter shade of Sam's dress, and maybe white. I'll play around with it and see what works. I can use the purple on my user info. I have PSP7, which works pretty well for color samples. :) Carina's awesome! I think that's a good sign of wonderful art, when you can appreciate it, even if you don't particulary care for the 'ship! :D

I have an HP computer and printer, so I'm glad to know their scanners are good, too. I guess I need to get some reviews on the Internet about which versions and such.

You are so helpful on all fronts! I appreciate it greatly.
