A Hundred Things - Zee Master Post.

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Okay. I'm going to do this. I can do it. Chakka! and all that jazz.

My topic is going to be

A Hundred Quotes

- be they literary, musical, generally inspiring, funny or just some little, seemingly unimportant words that have somehow touched my heart.

I wonder if I can get to a hundred, but I hope it'll just come naturally after a while. I have enough books, songs, movies, poems and interviews to last me a while. :) There won't be any particular order; I'll just post what crosses my mind each time.

On a related note, this is what I originally intended my old tumblr to be for, but I wanted the words on there to somehow matter - at least to me -, and even when I found some, I got too lazy to write them down properly or was busy and even forgot about some... but I'm still hoping to continue it in the future, and I will very probably take a few quotes for the Hundred Things Challenge that I've already collected from there. Makes things easier at the start. :)

I'll edit this post with a Master List of all the posts later, just for an overview.

100 things ~004

music: Neil Gaiman speaking

"It's sort of about the end of the world... or maybe it's just about paying attention to things."

- Neil Gaiman about his poem The Day the Saucers Came in this video.

Aliens, zombies, Norse gods, fairies... What's next? And why does nothing of it actually matter?Collapse )

Just some of the incountable reasons why I love Neil Gaiman. ♥

"And yet you hold life like a face between your palms,
a plain face, with no charming smile
or twinkle in her eye,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you again."

- Ellen Bass, To love life

This is the ending of a poem that I've known for a few years, but only decided to learn by heart recently because I stumbled upon it again. I found different versions of it, but I memorised the one I originally found at exceptindreams.

The whole poem and a few thoughts on it.Collapse )

100 things ~002

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Fitting for the 23rd of April, which was William Shakespeare's day of death (1616) and assumably also his birthday (1564), here's one about Britain's belovèd bard.

"He was not of an age, but for all time!"

- Ben Jonson, "To the memory of my beloved, the Author Mr. William Shakespeare: And what he hath left us.", in: The First Folio Edition of Mr. William Shakespeares comedies, histories, & tragedies: published according to the true originall copies. (Readable in its entirety here.)

tl;dr: I love Shakespeare and so did Ben Jonson. Epic literary rivalry/bromance I guess.Collapse )

Since I'm becoming more and more tired by the minute (it is late after all and I have to get up for uni in the morning), I leave you with a few verses by Shakespeare himself that perfectly fit Jonson's words about an author being a "Monument without a tomb", from the famous Sonnet 18.

"But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

100 things ~001

mood: relaxedrelaxed
music: The Hush Sound - Molasses

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

"Mein Leben gähnt mich an wie ein großer weißer Bogen Papier, den ich vollschreiben soll, aber ich bringe keinen Buchstaben heraus.
Mein Kopf ist ein leerer Tanzsaal, einige verwelkte Rosen und zerknitterte Bänder auf dem Boden, geborstene Violinen in der Ecke, die letzten Tänzer haben die Masken abgenommen und sehen mit todmüden Augen einander an."

- Leonce in: Georg Büchner, Leonce und Lena (1. Akt, 3. Szene)

I don't know if Leonce und Lena, a short play by Büchner, has ever been translated from German into other languages, but the quote means something along the lines of

"My life is yawning at me like a big white sheet of paper that I am supposed to fill with writing, but I can't produce a single letter.
My head is an empty ballroom, a few withered roses and crinkled ribbons on the floor, cracked violins in the corner, the last dancers have put down their masks and are looking at each other with worn out eyes."
Read on for verbal ramblingCollapse )

on to funny things

Aug. 31st, 2006 | 02:37 pm
location: Hollywood
mood: amusedamused
music: Muse - Falling away with you

to cheer myself up a little, I made that face recognition thing from www.myheritage.com with some JRockers and there are really some funny results >D

draw the curtainCollapse )

Why do JRockers always have to have that thing with keeping one of their eyes hidden? It was sometimes hard to find pics with a good shot of the faces that the generator could identify people with ^^'
Strangely, it took me ages and a gazillion nine tries to find a picture of Toshiya that the generator accepted o.O

If you want your favorite JRockers compared (again), just contribute a picture with a clear, full-face shot of him/her, and I'll do my best :)

And do you think I should/could post this in jrockhumor? okay, done ^.^
